Dr. Richard Starke, Minister of Tourism, Parks and Recreation, recently appointed thirteen new members to the Alberta Strategic Tourism Council. The membership represents the tourism industry from all regions of the province. Selected to this prestigious Council from the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) is Frank Creasey, CEO of Fort McMurray Tourism.  The council is tasked with an expanded mandate to provide strategic direction and support for the implementation of the Alberta Tourism Framework. Their role will include providing innovative ideas for promoting and supporting Tourism in Alberta and reach a goal of a $10.3 billion industry by 2020.

The Alberta Tourism Framework is a partnership between private and public sectors to drive economic development.  Their core concept is to create authentic tourism experiences and focus on visitor’s needs, while fostering economic expansion. Frank’s vast experience, derived from 25 years in the tourism industry, puts him in an excellent position to deliver on this directive.

Frank moved to Fort McMurray in 2011 and has focused on expanding tourism to our region, through strategic planning and collaborating with Industry and Aboriginal hamlets.  The region has experienced a growth in tourism, specially sports tourism that has been a novel focus in the tourism industry.
