Life in RMWB
Do well. Live well.
Wood Buffalo is as much about indoor recreation as outdoor recreation with facilities that few other cities anywhere near its size can claim.
Wood Buffalo offers a big opportunity for businesses that will support and enhance the present recreational infrastructure. A fitness-oriented resident population will warm to everything from acupuncture and laser pain relief to yoga and Pilates classes.
Recreational facilities in Wood buffalo are far beyond what anyone would expect to find in a municipality of just over 100,000 people. They include the Archie Simpson Arena, with a NHL size rink in the small community Fort Chipewyan. Summers are well-spent at the Syncrude Timberlea Athletic Park with its focus on baseball, skateboarding and lacrosse. Popular Vista Ridge is a popular winter destination with its alpine skiing and snowboarding. There are several indoor and outdoor ice arenas, an Olympic-size pool and aquatic centre, an indoor leisure centre a multi-purpose athletic park and much, much more. Fort McMurray’s MacDonald Park itself is the largest recreational development of its kind in Canada.
Wood Buffalo is a tight collection of communities and we love to get together to share our good fortune and good times. A year-round roster of events includes everything from the 3 Forts Sled Dog Race and the June Bug Children’s Festival to the star-studded Canada Rocks and our family-oriented “Craze” New Year’s celebration. In February/March, the three-week Winterplay festival features an international array of performers and in summer, Interplay puts the focus on family with everything from street performers to a film festival. For business, the opportunities for brand-enhancing participation are huge. There is always something going on and you can be sure it will be big!
All fun, all the time.
